Jasper is a fine-grained or dense sedimentary SiO2 variety (variety of chert), containing iron ores or oxides causing the red to brown or yellow colour.

Color

usually brown or red (but also black, yellow, green and greyish).

Comments

Chert and its varieties have often been used in prehistoric times as raw material for constructing stone tools.
